Happy New Year to me (really it’s my birthday)!!!

By March 26, 2012 No Comments

Well, my birthday will be here in less than a week (March 31) and I’m excited.  I always use my birthday as a time to set my New Year’s Goals.  For the last few years, I haven’t really placed any major goals on my list because I had worked so hard I decided I need to give myself a break.  Plus, I found this great guy and dating him made me rethink where my life was going because I wanted to build an empire with him.  Now that we are on solid ground I’m putting the focus back on my career and my business.  I’d like to share with you what the next few years will look like for me – professionally and personally.

Here are some of my goals:

Get my CPA license – now I have been procrastinating on taking this test since 2004.  Part of me was very comfortable in my 9 to 5 job.  I felt I didn’t need my license, but then I got the boot because of the recession and decided to start my own firm.  Now, to continue to build my accounting and tax practice I need to have those letters behind my name.  If you don’t know, by Dec. 31 2013 all tax preparers must have either passed a competency, Enrolled Agent, or a Certified Public Accountant exam.  I’m opting for the CPA because I have everything I need to get it and financially it makes sense.  I have invested money and time in study materials.  I can earn more money being certified.  My plan is to pass 2 parts of the exam in 2012 and the other 2 parts in 2013.  I will study 2 hours a day 6 days a week.  So if I don’t have time to talk to you, don’t take it personal.  Make sure you hold me accountable and root me on in this journey!

Lose 20 pounds – Over the course of dating my Hunny my eating and exercise habits took a turn for the worse.  My Hunny likes my new found curves, but my old clothes do not.  I am determined to get back into this brand new white pant suit (that I bought and never got to wear) by next spring (March 31, 2013).  Coincidentally, my anemia is back and I want to develop better eating habits so I don’t have to continue to take iron pills.  My plan to reach this goal is to do cardio and strength exercises 3 times a week for up to 1 hour and go to a yoga class once a week to stretch my developing muscles.  Also, I plan to continue to do weekly meal planning but make the meals healthier and more nutritious to help me stay away from the bad diagnoses that run in my family.

Contribute $1,200 to my IRA – It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a start.  By 2015 I want to max out the contributions on all my retirement vehicles.  I will definitely keep you posted.

Buy a rental property – I am looking forward to making money in my sleep, so I would love to start with a small townhouse or duplex rental to create income that’s going to help me buy the house boat of my dreams.

Plan a beautiful wedding – No, he hasn’t asked yet; but if I have my way by this time next year I will be picking out flowers and a beautiful wedding gown…

These are my new year’s goals.  How are you doing on yours?
